Banned Xbox 360 Ad: Best Ad Ever!

Heard about the Xbox 360 advertisement that Microsoft is refusing to air? Well, its the best ad Microsoft has ever done, and one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. I can still understand why the lawyers stopped them from airing the ad, but if Microsoft was smart, this would be airing in every movie theatre in the nation.

  8. Michael, no it isn’t. There are no guns, no blood, no real injuries. Its as violent as a bunch of kids playing cops and robbers, which is what the ad is trying to imitate.

The only reason it got banned is because there are some people in this country who are overly politically correct and feel like they need to protect people from things they aren’t offended by.

No one is dumb enough to put a budget in smthg that will get banned. This seems more like a commercial meant to be “leaked” on the net perfectly targetting a group of potential customers…

And the label (well tag if u want) “banned” makes the product MORE appealing

    As I said…just my .02

Comment by Razvan Antonescu | November 27, 2005

  13. Many Microsoft employees have expressed misgivings about the decision not to air the ad. Additionally, advertisements are deemed unsuitable for air all the time, regardless of budget. If Microsoft was trying to create a viral campaign, we’d know it. They aren’t known for being secretive about these things.

Comment by The Smurf | December 8, 2005

  64. Many times companies simply sign over an account and unspecified amount of money to an ad agency after they agree to hire that agency’s services. The ad agency then cranks out a number of ads, some rejected for various reasons. This may be one of the “good” ones that was too good to just let die in some back storage room. I remember some pretty cool stuff at my old agency that we made just for fun. Now that stuff should definately be banned from public view.

    Comment by Negrodamus | December 13, 2005

  81. I can understand why this ad got banned for violence. Someone mentioned it resembling the old “cops and robbers” games we played as children, and they’re correct. It was obviously meant to be a take on that. However, this ad is different for the following reasons:

1.) As a society, we are accustomed to children acting foolishly and without regard for the consequences of their actions. We do expect adults to be different. Children do not understand death often, or the real consequences of shooting someone with real bullets. Adults do. So to see adults behaving this way can be disturbing to some.

2.) Related to number one, the emotions displayed during children’s games are often loud and exaggerated by adult standards. To see the emotions being displayed in this commerical (such as the evident fear and uncertainty displayed by the guy holding “guns” on both the original guy and the people behind him), can also be disturbing because we relate to these emotions easier than to the exaggerated emotions of children which we often dismiss easily.

3.) Perhaps the most telling is the people shown in the ad make no effort to show it’s a game. There’s no “Hah! You missed me!” or other childish behavior being shown as you would expect from something like this. The violence being shown is very methodical and scripted. In fact, the only time you’re reminded this is pretend is the guy in the front seat of the car. Which doesn’t occur until over 30 seconds into the ad.

Now, they could have led off in the first 15 seconds with something like that, but that would’ve blown “the mood” as I’m sure many here would say. And that “mood” is exactly the reason the commercial COULD have been banned.

    Methodical, large-scale violence.

Now, is this any worse than an episode of 24 or of CSI. I don’t know, I don’t watch those shows for exactly the reasons pointed out above by other posters. But a ‘commercial’ by definiton gets no warning or rating, whereas television shows can be rated and require warnings before being shown.

If this ad did get banned for violence, then the decision was probably correct. Personally, I didn’t find the commercial that appealing. Even the silly water balloon commercial was more appealing to me than this one.

But I do have to ask what is it with the creepy commercials for the XBox 360? What, there’s no games that are actually good enough to stand on their own in a commercial? Oooh, there’s something unexpected…

  92. This is indeed a great ad that would do wonders for the otherwise stuck up-id-ness of the advertising world. It makes me sick that good, funny ads like the old slapping Tango adverts and this one, are looked upon by some to be too controversial. This is because the old are not dieing quick enough and thus allowing us to be free from the morals that they deem imperative. Let the old ways die and let us born ourselves a new where we can have the media that sets our sick evil selves free. We have enough law in real life, in media we want to be able to free the animals inside us. I blame it on the fact that medicine is saving way to many old people and thus we have to live in their fudging world where you can’t say fudge before 9pm on TV. I teach my kids to say fudge because if I tell them not to do it, it will only make things worse. Let us free, role with the times and air the fudging advert.

  107. This add is hilarious!!! Several posts blame the ban on right wing christians, thats just as funny as the ad!!!!

This add did not air for one simple reason:
Libbiots and gun control advocates would have had a cow, heaven forbid people are seen on tv pointing fingers at others saying “BANG!” and pretending to fall down dead. Libbiots and PC morons are the bane of our society, not the right wing christians, although theres plenty of kooks on that side of the aisle too.

Bottom line, if hollywood can put out a movie about two gay sheepherders MS should be able to put this ad the air.

Guns dont kill people, criminals with guns kill people, and criminals dont care about gun control laws……..

    Comment by Rob | January 16, 2006

  126. As to the video from oldeenglish, not related. Even if it was copyrighted, that only gives limited protection. You can’t copyright the idea of pretending to shoot someone, so anyone can film it. Its the specific plot that would get copyrighted, and they aren’t similar.
    Moron.

and to the idiot that said it was violent, and because it is a commercial an parental warning can’t be put in front of it, you coult always show it during shows with parental warnings. Think outside the box.

Anyway, I expect to see this commercial on TV sometime near the release of Halo3 or PS3(or both).

  162. Are people buying into this fake stuff? So let me get this straight, this “best ad ever” that Microsoft has decided not to air because it’s so crazy and over the top (by the way it’s not really that funny), yet they are fine with releasing it for you to link. As if advertising isn’t bad enough, now Microsoft is resorting to posting their ads on webpages like this to make it appear that this is some kind of “leaked” ad, so people will email all their friends. It’s so transparent it’s ridiculous. Think of the money they save posting their ad here instead of paying for real commercial time, all they need is a webpage and a fan boy to make a write up of how “great” and “banned” it was and poof, people will come.

I can see why they didn’t want to air it since it doesn’t promote the system, just something mildly funny to watch. It’s no where near the best ad. They didn’t ban it because it’s violent they banned it because it’s stupid.

    Comment by Tack | January 31, 2006

  168. I think that this ad was hilarious, I showed some of my friends and they thought it was good too, and it advertises the 360 perfectly, it shows how it is fake and how everyone is involved in it, and I completely agree that this was a smarter advertising technique, and is probably doing better on the web then it would have done as a commercial.
    Peace

    Comment by Whydoucare | January 31, 2006

  169. The reason that this ad is banned is probably is not because of violence, or they would ban most movie ads you see on tv, it was probably banned because the train station or some of the people in it did not sign something that said they wanted to be in the ad, or the train station didnt really want this to happen, just a theory.

  191. rem15= reply to the above: for those who mentioned there is no real gun in the ad … etc, but as we all know what is the middle finger means when sbo use it to point at others, so it is not necessary to speak the word fxxk, a symbol can do the job n carry out the msg, so, not using the real thing is not equal to no such meanings

  197. I have seen a lot of complaints about not being able to find an xbox 360. They have been looking in there home towns and complaining about it online. Just thought I would point out if they LOOKED online they wouldn’t have to complain about it because there are thousands. Don’t look for weeks waiting on a list or paying crazy prices. look online, it would take 1 or 2 minutes and have it come to your house in a few days at a good price. The big boys don’t care the little guys care because they need money for food ;-)

Yet guys saying ‘BANG BANG BANG’ and holding their fingers like guns is bad. Guys faking like they were shot is wrong. It’s just like kids playing Cops and Robbers!

Comment by Ask first | March 11, 2006

  205. I would say it was banned because it shows how people get reality and “pretend” confused…this is kind of like advertising that video games do cause violence (I don’t believe that, but hey.) Whatever though, dunno if I really want to buy that gaming console just because I saw the commercial or anything, but great commercial, now I like the name of the company.

  209. I don’t know, I don’t think it is all that funny.. Sure, it is pretty nice, but not as exciting as all the hype about it cracks it up to.
But on an other note, I do think that it is extremely reminiscent of some scenes from that movie.. Mean Guns or something? That American movie that’s just like that Japanese Battle Royal..
I mean, it was a very long time since I saw that movie, but I seem to remember that the end of Mean Guns started with a Mexican stand-off looking pretty much exactly like in the commercial, complete with many people holding one gun in each hand.. Then suddenly one fires a shot and all hell breaks loose.
Sure, that could be a lot of movies, and as I said, it was a long time since I saw this one, but I just got the feeling that it was very close..

Anyway, I really don’t think that it should be banned in any way.. I mean, seriously, lighten up. Do people really think that someone will confuse this with reality? And if so, what could that lead to? A massive amount of finger pointing on the streets of the world? Oh my god, you’re right, that is a terrible vision of the future.. How rude! I’ve changed my mind, probably best to ban everything like this..

If there was any gore in it then I could understand but it just looks like good fun and the guy on the phone waiting until he’s finished talking at the end before he falls over ‘dead’ proves that it’s all a big game. People can be so sensitive sometimes.

  214. I think every body should now buy an x-box 360 and play 3rd person shooters 24-7. As it will lead to total personal happiness and fulfilment and take them out of their bedrooms and sitting rooms. Alternatively every body should invest in custard pie making equipment and spend 24-7 making pies go out into the real world and start pieing everybody without a smile on their face. Then we can really see who finds it funny and who doesn’t.

Ps sorry for the bad spelling, I got a defrosting head in the fridge I gotta attend too. I also think the film “A History of Violence” is a really cool film. Laugh at your self and the world parts with its money. PPS in my spare time I often go around shopping malls with a real water pistol, sure beats sittin at home in front of the pc for hours on end trying to get to the next important level that looked suspiciously like the last one. If only computer games were a bit more entertaining in the first place or taught you how to be happier and more fun filled in real life. Of course the graphics are amazing almost like real life at times until I look out of the window of course and see a beautiful sunset. Now where is my upgrade button gone ahh f*ck it I just download a new games consol, with of course games suspiciously like the previously out dated console, but with better graphics of course but with an added anal trembler that is inserted you know where that injects the right amount of fear hormone with a dash of aggression. Ahh f*ck it I think I’ll have a game of real football instead or do some downhill skiing, snowboarding, cycling.

Btw the advert was funny but not really that funny, not enough to part with my hard earned cash well just my two cents. So where are all the really new and interesting games then.

  228. Ok, someone tell me why this country has deteriorated so much in the past 2 decades that now it’s considered a horrible bad thing that people play “pretend”? Where has this country gone so wrong that ads like this are pulled from the air because some high-and-mighty, overly PC lobbyist with no sense of humor and no imagination thought that a bunch of people using thier fingers to “shoot” each other (and basically play pretend like most of us did when we were kids) was promoting violence? It’s not promoting -anything- (aside from the product) that anyone should consider offensive. If my kid were to watch that commercial, do you know what I would say? I would tell my child “See, -those- are the kinds of guns you should play with.” and set an example. I would like to promote my child to have an active imagination (though I might draw the line at him or her running around in a mall doing that, of course. :P )

Bottom line, I love the commercial. The lady with the grenade and the cabbie on the cell phone were hilarious. And personally, I think some people with Microsoft and the FCC need to remember what it was like to be a kid. The way most people act these days, you’d think that no one was ever a child before they grew up. Oh well.

With this site I posted above, you only need 8-12 references since you need 20 references if you directly go to http://www.3604free.com,
Important!!!! Make sure you select the REFERAL program not the other program because I personally find out the other one take a very long time

Next simply fill one (just one) of the free stuff or free trial offers from the list (they have over 100s)

Note: The trials are really trials, try to find one that does not need any credit card or simply apply for one and cancel few days later after. They are all legit and can all be cancelled.
