In answer to that headline, yeah, probably.

  • 512 MB of RAM
  • Systems with one of these CPUs: Intel Core Duo, Intel Core Solo, Intel Pentium M, Mobile Pentium 4 (with or without Hyper-Threading), Intel Celeron M, Intel Xeon (Dual-Core), Intel Pentium Extreme Edition (Dual-Core), Intel Pentium 4 with HT Extreme Edition, Pentium D (Dual Core), Intel Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading, Celeron D, OR
  • AMD Athlon 64 FX (with or without Dual Core), AMD Athlon 64, AMD Sempron, AMD Turion 64 Mobile, Mobile AMD Athlon 64, Mobile AMD Sempron, AMD Opteron (Single or Dual Core)

And keep in mind, these are just the recommended specs. You’ll still be able to run Vista on less, just with not the best performance/bells and whistles. The main thing is, if you’re covered by everything on this chart, you should have a pretty good Vista system, with Aero and everything else.

  1. So a regular Pentium 4 (even one with HyperThreading) is supposedly not good enough? I’m not sure if I should buy that.

Besides, the CPU requirements list is insane. It’s insane for an operating system to have such demands. I hope we really won’t be forced indirectly to upgrade quickly.

  2. List updated. Pentium 4 with Hyper Threading is supported. No word yet on lesser Pentium versions. However, Vista should run on Pentium 3′s, based on processor speed requirements quoted in the past. It just isn’t listed yet as a supported processor.

  3. this is the recommended specs, you can run it with less power
and finally i know if my fx5200 will run aero (not that i will, i think the transparency is kinda weird), but it wasnt clear until now
