Microsoft Taskbar Hack: Groupbar

Lifehacker posts about an interesting app from Microsoft’s “Vibe” team (”elegant visualization and interaction techniques”, apparently) called GroupBar. GroupBar replaces the taskbar and allows proper grouping of Windows and proper displaying of them in a vertical taskbar (long a messy situation in Windows). You can create Snapshots of groups of Windows, and with a click, run all the programs, restoring them to exactly the place you want them to be. GroupBar even allows multiple taskbars, with reordering and dragging of elements.

Pretty cool to see something like this coming from Microsoft, as opposed to some website presenting a kewl way to hack (and ruin) some vital system files. This program not only doesn’t muck up Windows, it doesn’t even install; you just run it. Check it out, and check out the rest of Vibe.
