Halo 3 Beta Pulls 140,000 First Day

Microsoft has revealed that an amazing 140,000 people signed up for the Halo 3 beta at halo3.com on the first day the signup page was available. Me and my brother both signed up, and I can tell you two things: (1) The site was almost entirely inaccessible for a long time, and (2) the only browser we got through with was Firefox. There’s no other number to compare this to, as this is the first real popular console free beta I know of, but 140,000 tells me the interest in this game is going to be sky-high.

You know, you can still sign up…

  1. Out of sheer curiosity, why did you explicitly mention Firefox? Are you implying that a difference in the web browser implementations rendered IE and/or Opera less able to retrieve the web page, or are you simply pointing out the irony of it?

  3. I mention it because I had all three browsers at once open, trying to sign up, and Opera and IE both failed, due to timing out too quickly, while Firefox got through with ease. Plus, it is ironic.
