There’s A Windows Home Server Team Blog

The Windows Home Server team is blogging, and they’ve already racked up some interesting posts. They explain why Home Server doesn’t have Exchange (they asked home users, and they were already satisfied with their email, and often use webmail) and some stats on the target market:

  • There are 15 million households in the U.S. that share a broadband connection between two or more active PCs, and over 40 million worldwide.
  • On average, these households have 3 “active” PCs with the majority running a mix of Windows XP Home and Windows XP Professional
  • Over 90% of these households own a digital camera
  • Over 95% own a color printer
  • 70% own a game console
  • Less than 20% feel they have a good backup solution

  1. No Exchange in Home Server? I would think there are a lot of home users like me who use more than one computer at home per user. I have a desktop computer that I use for all apps including e-mail. It would be nice to be able to check e-mail from my multi-media PC while watching TV or to take my laptop out in the back yard on a nice day. The way I use it now is very convuleted and so I am mainly stuck with using one machine. I really like outlook and don’t much care for WEB based mail. Maybe have Exchange in there for the geeks like me who would really appreciate it. Have it on a toggle to use or not to use. Thanks.
