Microsoft Details Scratched XBox 360 Disk Replacement Plan

Microsoft has a webpage explaining how you can replace a scratched Xbox 360 disk for twenty bucks, no questions asked. While this is Microsoft basically acknowledging that the super-speed DVD drive in the 360 tends to destroy disks if the console is moved while the disk is inserted, but charging $20 for a replacement disk is a bit excessive. I’ve got a massively scratched copy of Dead Rising, and I’ll never get to finish one of my favorite games because Capcom has the same program.

There’s no way this costs more than a few bucks to replace, so its a shame they’re trying to make money off of this. I already paid sixty bucks, and I just want to play the damn game I am entitled to! I’ll wait for it to drop below twenty at Gamestop and pick up a new copy that way instead.

Microsoft has also improved the 360’s warranty, fixing bricked consoles faster, with free shipping, and a good warranty for returned, fixed consoles. Good for them. I love the 360, but damn does it break a lot.

If you were one of the people who picked up an Xbox Live Diamond card, there are a few discounts you can take advantage of. Read here.

Yeah, another banned Xbox 360 ad. This one was banned in the UK because it promotes dangerous driving. You know, like every car chase movie ever…

  1. I mailed in my broken copy of Gears of War to the Microsoft Disc Replacement program and when I mailed it off I got delivery confirmation and a tracking number so USPS confirmed they delievered it but Microsoft can not confirm that they have it! Very fustrating and might open a BBB ticket!

  2. The disc replacement sounds good but I’m still waiting for the replacement for my Halo 3 disc. On the UK website it saus 4-6 weeks from when they receive the disc! You have no way of telling when they have received it.
I posted it on 10th October. I’m still waiting. But the replacement for h3 discs is free until the end of the year, so that makes up for it.
