Microsoft Makes Madonna Song Available As Free Download

As a promotion for the Live Earth concert, of which Microsoft is a major sponsor, MSN is giving away a new song by Madonna, written for the concert, as a completely free download. The song, “Hey You”, is available at liveearth.msn.com as a free download, but you can save the effort be a heartless bastard and get it by clicking on either of these links:

  1. Dear Nathan -

I don’t mean to be a troll…but would you folks please consider linking to the web site for the Madonna download instead of the providing direct download links here?
(I left a similar message to Steven along these same lines - just so you know that I’m not just singling InsideMicrosoft out)

My thinking is that LiveEarth seems to be a very noble cause, and obviously the music is intended to be a draw for people to get visibility to the challenge of climate change. Sending people to the site to potentially click through to some of the causes such as the Alliance for Climate Protection, Liveearth.org, signing up for the LiveEarth newsletter, would seem to be the right thing to do instead of bypassing the site altogether which defeats the purpose of posting the song.

It might seem like a small difference but might be meaningful and it’s all for a good cause. Just my opinion.

  2. You are right, more people should go to the website and support the cause. I think I’ll edit the post to make people who use the direct links feel guilty :-)
