Zune Actually Selling Out

Microsoft didn’t realize that the Zune 80 gigabyte would be as popular as it is, and as a result it is sold out all over the place. doesn’t have it in stock, and shipments were delayed by 10 days. I’ve said it for a while: With the price being equal, there’s no reason to choose the iPod over the Zune, given the Zune’s improved features and much better looks. Apple screwed up this generation of iPods, and Microsoft is going to have significantly improved market share over the next year.

  1. I really like the posts on this Website. That’s why I am so upset that the pop-up full window ads not only cover up your articles, they basically take the browser to the advertisers web page! Man, this sucks. I’d hate to abandon this part of my regular reading.

  2. Sorry, Walter, I brought back AdBrite and there was a setting I had to change about those full-page ads. You should see those ads barely ever now, or not at all.

  3. Nathan, its sold out because there were hardly any units delivered to retailers. You can read about this on Paul Thurrot’s article here: This will hardly have an impact on market share.

  4. Just because Paul can’t find any in Boston doesn’t mean they don’t exist. People have found and bought them. The Zune 80 was in limited supply last year, too, but it didn’t sell out like this, certainly not this quickly. Ask around, you’ll see that demand is there. It’s not iPod-level, but Zune is certainly becoming a serious consideration for many shoppers.
