NPD Numbers For November 2007

The NPD’s sales figures for November reveal Nintendo continuing to sell more consoles than everyone, but that consumers are spending more money on Xbox than Wii. Nintendo sold 981,000 consoles, compared to Xbox 360, which moved 770,000 units, or Sony’s PlayStation 3 and its 466,000. Microsoft is claiming an overall victory, with $763 million in total revenue, compared to $587 million for Wii and $364 for PS3.

What’s more important, installed base or money? In the long run, installed base might matter more, but in the larger picture, money is all that is going to matter. Microsoft’s console is where the money is going, Microsoft’s products are profitting, and that matters for a lot.

Something really dissapointing for Sony: At current, the PS3 is selling at a trend worse than the one by the Gamecube. If Sony can’t even outsell the Cube, it can’t compete this generation, period.

  1. Quite a nonsensical argument you got here. Bigger install base makes a console more appealing to developers. Measuring money spent? Does MS make $50 profit per console? (which is what supposedly Ninty is getting in the US). Why don’t you do a bit more research and find out what they are making, then do a bit of math and find out profits, and then you can measure with some degree of accuracy who’s on top. Or just go ahead with a half-assed “report” favorable to your console of choice. The PS3 ain’t no Game Cube either, so lets not pretend that it won’t be around for some 7 years, probably longer than the RRoD (if you could string a bunch together, then you could have pretty lights to decorate for the Holidays). And what the heck does “at every here and now” mean? Spell-check’s not good enough, ask a fellow class-mate to edit your posts before, er, posting.
    Happy Holidays dude!

  2. Money matters SO much more than sales. There’s no point in selling products if you don’t make lots of money on them. The fact is that the Xbox 360 has a more “robust economy” than any of the others, which should result in a healthier shelf life than the competition.

It isn’t a “half-assed report”, it’s the standard industry sales report. It is all the research that matters.

The PS3 could very well be the GameCube. The Cube lasted the entire generation, so even if the PS3 lasts seven years, there’s no indication it’ll ever climb out of third place.

The only valid point you actually made was about my grammar, which I’ve corrected. Otherwise, you speak like the average fanboy who defends his favorite console without any statistics to back it up.
