MSN Search With Clustering
Microsoft Research Asia has whipped together a search engine that uses MSN Search, but adds clustering technology to the rising search engine. It’s called Search Result Clustering (SRC), and there’s even a MSRA SRC toolbar for IE. Its a very solid search engine, good enough that some people will probably make it their default, if they knew about it. And therein lies the rub.
Can I be blunt? I don’t care if this is more of a research prototype (as Addy Santo says) than a public release. It runs smoothly, and thus should be sitting in the Sandbox, Google-Labs style. This is exactly the type of thing Microsoft does and doesn’t publicize well. Google releases a version of its search engine with logos that grow bigger and it’s all over the blogosphere, while Microsoft puts out search clustering and forgot to tell anybody? It doesn’t matter if they are never going to do anything with it, and will never take off the beta tag. Tell people! Its good, I like it, so faithful readers: Check it out.
