Start.com Goes Live

Start.com may still be a technology preview, but it finally has enough features to be considered a “live” site and be moved to the simpler start.com address. The Start.com blog says the new features include:
- feed read/unread support
- more/fewer headlines
- auto-refresh for feeds
- many improvemens on:
- look and feel
- feed subscriptions
- default experience
- sidebar behavior
- as we as many bug fixes
I’m willing to say that this latest version of Start.com is good enough to replace almost all web-based RSS aggregators out there. Feed search is easier and faster than anywhere else. Type in any keyword, click subscribe next to all of the results you like, and they are added. Click on a feed, read, hit Esc and its gone. The key to a good feed reader is speed, and Start has it.

UPDATE: Matt noticed that Start seems to trunctuate blog posts (or display excerpts) instead of full posts, except for built-in feed like Engadget. I hope that one of the items on the list of future features is the ability to display full feeds, because the lack of that ability is a deal-breaker for me.

That’s not the case with my MSN Spaces custom feed. Try it out:

And then go to the entry “Managing MSDE (free database management tools)” - 5th item, it’s full of text and scrolls far.
