Dare Meets Bill Gates
Dare Obasanjo, Program Manager at Windows Live, has a little-known interesting family tree: His father, Olusẹgun Ọbasanjọ, is the current President of Nigeria. Early this month, Bill Gates traveled to Nigeria, and before he did, he met with Dare to discuss his family and a bunch of world issues. From Dare’s blog entry, it sounds like a really fascinating conversation, and one many people would be instantly jealous of.
They discussed everything from Dare’s fathers history of holding elections, becoming a political prisoner, running for UN Secretary General, and military takeovers; to what it feels like to leave an important and powerful decision after a long period (Gates is retiring from Microsoft in two years); to religious tensions and divisions in Nigeria; to malaria and smallpox and difficulties in getting vaccinations into developing countries; even to safe sex and preventing sexually transmitted diseases.
And, of course, the finish:
As I was leaving the building I overheard the following exchange between the receptionist of the building and a visitor
Visitor: Where is Bill Gates’s office?
Receptionist: I’m not at liberty to divulge that information.
Visitor: I need to see him, I just downloaded Windows Vista and I have a number of complaints.I wonder how often that happens.
